I have been a visual artist for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan dreaming of a career in fashion. My earliest inspiration was my father who was a stained glass artist in and around Metro Detroit. I always wanted to follow in his footsteps, finding a way to make a living as an artist. I was also obsessed with Comme des Garcons and Rei Kawakubo's anti-fashion everything. In high school, I volunteered to do windows for a local boutique because I was too young to be legally employed. My early work was typically experimental -- high school girl makes her own clothes, makes pottery, reinvents her own wheel, leaves home, road trips south to settle down in Central Florida. Ignorance can be bliss - I opened my own boutique, Venus & Mars, in Orlando in 1995 and much to my hoped-for surprise and total delight, it was a huge success. We sold women's and men's clothing, accessories and shoes. Our aesthetic was irreverent and edgy -- think chic meets street. I loved every aspect of owning my own business. I honed my visual skills and discovered a knack for photo styling because we created all of our own advertising and printed collateral. After an amazing eight year run, I decided to close up shop to immerse myself in other creative interests. Since then, I have focused on visual display and creative concept for many retailers, both local and national. I always loved the quote by Saul Bass, "design is thinking made visual." Imagination is everything.
